c. 1900 Buttercup Engagement Ring with a Late Old European Cut / Early Transitional Cut Diamond

Period: c. 1880s - 1910s late/post-Victorian

Inscription: the piece is hand inscribed in a subtle cursive font, “F.W.K. to N.M.H.”

Materials: acid tests as approx. 9K - 12K gold (“antique gold" color, leans towards rose but it isn't as pink as many other rose gold pieces) — note: the accompanying GCAL report states “10K rose gold”, which is what will be stated on the final receipt for consistency

Dimensions: the top of the ring measures approx. 8.40 mm wide north to south; the ring stands approx. 4.00 mm tall above the finger

Size: a hair over 6 1/2, though the report calls it 6 3/4 (free sizing)

Diamond: assessed by GCAL laboratory in the mounting as approx. .71 carat Old European Cut diamond, H-I color, VS1 clarity, which is what will be on the final receipt. For what it’s worth, I (Matt, GIA GD) grade this as approx. I color, VS1 clarity, and would classify the cut as late Old European / early Transitional with a lovely floral facet pattern
