Frequently Asked Questions

PURCHASING

Absolutely! We very much enjoy meeting fellow locals and we encourage in-person meetings. All showings are by appointment in NYC. Please contact us to put something together.

We're happy to reserve most items for 48 hours, free of charge. To place an item on hold, please send us a message requesting a reservation. Please note that in some cases we reserve the right to decline hold requests or to end a hold period early (we have our reasons).

A heads up: we do not reserve or offer payment plans for items that have been listed in our shop or posted to Instagram within the past week.

Yep! The standard payment plan consists of five equal payments of 20% each. The first 20% installment is due as soon as you're ready to begin. Each following installment of 20% is due every consecutive month until the invoice is paid in full. Your item will ship once the payment process is complete. Please note that items purchased via payment plan are considered final sale and all payments made are nonrefundable.

Please contact us for more information or visit our Policies page for full details.

A heads up: we do not offer payment plans for items that have been listed in our shop or posted to Instagram within the past week.

The majority of rings we sell are one-of-a-kind antiques, so once they're gone, they're gone! If you'd be interested in a custom reproduction, please contact us to discuss.

RETURNS

We want our customers to adore their Pebble & Polish pieces!

We're happy to offer a five-day examination window. If you have a change of heart, please contact us within five days of receiving your item to initiate a return. We will provide you with a return address and instructions once you notify us of your intent to return an item.

To be eligible for return, your item must be unaltered and in its original condition, and it must be accompanied by all third-party documentation included with the purchase. Custom designs, items that have been sized or otherwise altered at your request, and items purchased via payment plan are considered final sale.

Once we have received and signed for your return, we will issue your refund to the original form of payment within two business days (it will take a few additional days to reflect in your account).

The first item you return will be refunded in full, less shipping costs incurred by Pebble & Polish. If you return multiple items, an additional fee will be charged for each item returned beyond the first item.

Please refer to our Policies page for more information.

SHIPPING

Our items ship via FedEx with shipping insurance provided by a third party that specializes in jewelry shipments. Items are shipped to the customer's name, "Hold for Pickup," at a FedEx location near the shipping address provided by the customer. We've found that this is the fastest, safest, and most discreet method for shipping high-value items.

Package retrieval from the FedEx office will require the customer's government-issued photo ID and a signature. Packages must be retrieved within five days or the shipped item will be automatically returned to Pebble & Polish and a restocking fee will apply. Please visit our Policies page for full details.

All items ship free (and fully insured) within the continental United States.
For international shipping, please contact us for a quote.

Purchases are packaged and shipped within two business days after all payments have cleared in full. Sizing and other customizations add to the processing time.

Because jewelry is particularly susceptible to theft, we have a number of security measures built into our website. We also want to protect credit card holders by combatting fraudulent purchases. Payments may therefore take a few business days to clear. To make up for any delays, we will grant free shipping upgrades when payments take more than two business days to pass our security measures.

If you need your item quickly, please select one of our "Shipping Upgrade" options at checkout.

Please note that we will not delay shipments beyond the usual processing time. Please do not make a purchase until you are ready and available to retrieve your item from FedEx.

We ship to many countries worldwide. For international shipping, please send us a message with your exact shipping address and the piece(s) you're considering for purchase so we can provide a shipping quote.

It is the sole responsibility of our international customers to research and pay any duties, tariffs, or taxes related to their purchase.

SIZING AND REPAIRS

Most rings can be resized to fit, though it depends on the exact piece and size you need. Please contact us with the item number and your desired ring size to confirm.

We'd be happy to size your ring for free wherever "free sizing" is noted within an item's listing. Note, however, that sizing renders items ineligible for return. If you agree to the terms of final sale and opt to have us size your ring, the turnaround generally takes 3 to 5 business days.

You may instead opt to receive the ring as is, make sure you like it and want to keep it, and then have it sized by your local jeweler. Please notify us before you make a purchase if this is how you'd prefer to proceed. Inform us of the item number and desired size, and we'll provide a discount code that you can apply at checkout. The discount will help offset local sizing costs and is given in lieu of us sizing your ring for free.

We currently only offer repairs for items purchased from Pebble & Polish.

HISTORY AND QUALITY

The majority our items are one-of-a-kind antique or vintage pieces. The estimated age of each item is clearly noted within the product listing. Occasionally we will offer newly made, historically-inspired pieces (typically using antique and/or estate diamonds) but these are marked accordingly online. Please read our Policies page for more details.

For better or worse, most of our pieces are so old they have essentially become detatched from their origin stories. What's more, we acquire our pieces only from fellow collectors and licensed dealers. This grants us access to much higher-quality pieces, but limits our opportunity to meet and learn about the original owners (or, more accurately, their descendants). We rarely know an item's specific history. But it won't hurt to ask!

Many of our rings include third-party reports, such as those provided by GIA. When available, such documents are noted within an item's online listing.

We do not offer appraisal services. However, we are aware that most people would like an appraisal for insurance purposes. Accordingly, each of our items comes with an "insurance-friendly" receipt. The document was designed specifically to meet the needs of insurance companies. In our experience, this is all our customers have ever needed in order to obtain insurance coverage for the purchase price of an item.

Many of our pieces are accompianied by a third-party report, usually from GIA. When a report is available, it will be mentioned in an item's online listing. Please note that such reports are for a piece's primary stone, not for a piece itself.

When third-party documents are unavailable, we rely on Matt's experience in art history and training as a GIA Diamonds Graduate for assessing pieces and their stones. Diamond color and clarity are graded using a 10x corrected jeweler's loupe in accordance with GIA methodologies. We typically use terminology established by GIA but may add descriptions or comments, or use historical grading terms. Set stones are graded as their respective mounts permit and their carat weights and grades are estimated. Please contact us if you want a more detailed description of a stone's clarity characteristics. See our Policies page for more info.

Even when a report is provided, we strongly encourage our customers to view and consider pieces for themselves. After all, not everything that's measured matters, and not everything that matters is measured. Make your own call! It's why we have a return policy.

BESPOKE

We'd be delighted to help bring your vision to life! While the custom process isn't for everyone, it is a fun and flexible way to go about acquiring a ring truly your own. Our Bespoke page offers an overview of the process. For more info, please contact us. We suggest a phone call. Customs in particular are best discussed over the phone, as there are many options to consider.

In many cases, yes! We work with a skilled team of bench jewelers to craft each custom piece, using antique diamonds and recycled gold where possible. Please keep in mind that, while a reproduction will usually closely resemble the original, there will always be some details that differ slightly. We see this as the perfect opportunity to truly refine your design and make your finished ring unique! See our Bespoke page for a bit more.

We do not separate set stones from their mounts, but we'd be happy to create a historically-inspired setting for your stone. Please contact us for details!
