Period and details: c. late 1920s - early 1930s; Art-Deco era but in an ornate late-Edwardian style; the shank is stamped “CERTIFIED,” which is a mark of Katz & Ogush, Inc., a design and fabrication house renowned for its ornate top-of-the-line platinum and diamond jewelry, especially engagement-type rings with intricate open metalwork. Just look at that gallery! (It’s the area below the center stone.) Those negative spaces were each hand pierced, meaning that they were cut out using a teeny tiny drill and saw. The craftsmanship is extraordinary. Though one side shows wear from having been paired with a wedding band, this ring—which is in overall excellent condition for its age—is a prime, museum-quality example of a Katz & Ogush engagement ring.
