Post-WWII / Midcentury Platinum and Diamond Engagement Ring and Wedding Band Set by J.R. Wood. and Sons

Note: the ring and band are sold as a set--we do not offer them for sale as separate pieces

Period: c. 1945 - early 1960s post-WWII / Midcentury

Marks: the wedding band shows a very faint Greek-epsilon-like E, next to a smaller w, at which point the stamp is illegible. Nonetheless, it looks like the “Ewood” stamp of jewelry house J.R. Wood & Sons, a jewelry firm that was established by J. R. Wood in 1850 on Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn, NY. In 1883, J.R.’s son, Rawson Wood, was made partner. Six years later, in 1889, J.R.’s other son, John Wood, joined the firm. The name was then changed to “J.R. Wood & Sons.” Papa Wood died in 1897, leaving the business entirely to the sons, though they kept the name unaltered. Generations later, in 1975, the company name was changed to “Art-Carved, Inc.”
