Victorian Solitaire Engagement Ring with Subtle Split-Shank Shoulders

Period: c. 1890s - early 1900s; late/post-Victorian with lovely hand-carved split-scroll shoulders. Or maybe they're stylized whale tails. Or butterfly antennae. Or or, if you're like Matt and have an odd obsession with signs and symbolism, the shoulders could represent all three, signifying knowledge/wisdom (scrolls), passion/fervor (whale tail via Moby Dick), and beauty/light heartedness (butterfly antennae), all wrapped up in the subtle and simple shoulder design. Then again, maybe they're just pretty.

Materials: 14K gold (the piece is stamped “14” within a shield)

Dimensions: the top measures approximately 7.75 mm north to south; the ring stands 4.60 mm tall above the finger

Size: 4 3/4 (free sizing — contact us for more info)

Diamond: 1.06 carat Old European Cut diamond (GIA-assessed as Circular Brilliant; I color; VS2 clarity). Note: the stone is, in our opinion, clearly an Old European Cut (as opposed to most Circular Brilliants, which are typically Transitional Cuts). The reason GIA called it a Circ. Bril. is because of the shallow pavilion, which adds to the diamond’s spread. But the stone is absolutely an Old Euro. at heart. And with I color and VS2 clarity, it's a nice one at that.
