P&P Original: Victorian-Influenced 18K Yellow Gold Solitaire with a Warm Late-Transitional Cut Diamond

Period: this is a new ring by Pebble & Polish, designed with a late-Victorian style. The ring was crafted in stages: the very top was carved from wax, but in a way that was intentionally overly chunky. After casting in gold, our goldsmith hand carved the basket in order to get the open and airy basket that you see in the ring (wax is too soft to allow for such fine detailing—it requires direct working of the metal). Everything else was crafted via hand forging: the ring/seat at the base of the basket, the entire shank, and the stepped bands on the shoulders were each created from hand-drawn wire and then shaped and carved to form, all made from recycled 18K gold. And on the topic of gold, we chose a particularly clean, bright, and sunny hue for this piece as a compliment to the warm M color of the stone. The ring isn’t as pale as green gold, but it does have a cheerier disposition as compared to the lightly-browned butter hue of some 18K alloys.
