French Late Edwardian Platinum Engagement Ring with a 1.00 Carat Old Mine Cut Diamond Center

Period: c. late 1910s - early 1920s; post-Edwardian; pre-Art Deco era; French origin

Stamps: bears the French dog’s head and a maker’s mark; the maker’s mark reads as an “I” next to what appears to be a standing griffin looking back over its shoulder (the second letter, typical of French hallmarks, has been lost to wear) presented within an east-west lozenge (maker unknown)

Materials: platinum; diamonds

Dimensions: the top measures approx. 5.80 mm wide north to south; the ring stands 4.50 mm tall above the finger

    Center: GIA-assessed 1.00 carat Old Mine Cut diamond with G color and SI1 clarity—this is a particularly “muffin-topped” and chunky Old Miner

    Accents: .10 ctw., est.; six Single Cut diamonds with approx. H color and SI clarity overall
