Antique WWI-Era Men's or Women's Gold Wedding Band, Dated 1917

Period: WWI era

Inscription: the band is hand inscribed in an ornate cursive script, “L.J.G. to L.A.G. 8-18-17”

Historical tidbit: while there is no direct evidence beyond the inscription to support this, it is feasible that this band belonged to a U.S. soldier involved in WWI. The U.S. technically entered the war on April 6, 1917, but that doesn’t mean boots hit the ground that very day. Prep and training take time. Troops were thus rallied beginning Spring and Summer of 1917, sent primarily to France for training, and then shipped to their respective posts. Wars have a way of warping personal timelines, and large-scale troop deployments often lead to a boom in weddings. It’s possible—even likely—that this band belonged to a young soldier or new recruit who wanted to get married before shipping off to fight in what eventually became known as the Great War.

Material: approx. 10K gold with an earthy hue

Dimensions: the band measures approximately 4.5 mm wide and stands 1.25 mm tall above the finger

Size: 9 1/2 (contact us for sizing information)
