P&P Original: Mid-Late Victorian Style Gold and Silver Solitaire with Shrugged Shoulders and a Patinated 12-Prong Basket

Period: This new, hand-fabricated ring was inspired by c. mid-late 1800s Victorian design, reflecting the mood and classic simplicity of the era. The gold alloy was selected to evoke the warm, rich hues characteristic of antique gold, while the silver in the crown allows for a patina and resulting evocations of the “Victorian Gothic”.

Concerning fabrication, both the ring and basket were first hand carved from wax, then cast. Once in its metal form, the basket underwent further refinement to achieve a lighter, more delicate profile while also being work-hardened for durability. Once the piece was crafted and set, we applied a hand-painted patina, which was then selectively polished to create contrast between the shadowed recesses and the brighter, polished surfaces. The materials and finishes were chosen specifically to complement the particularly stunning 2.56 carat antique center diamond, whose subtle warmth in body color and brightness of light return are mirrored in the mount itself, creating a harmonious interplay between the stone and its setting.
