Midcentury 2.40 ct Fancy Brown Old European Cut Diamond Three-Stone Engagement Ring

Period: c. mid to mid-late 1900s; a distinctly late Midcentury three-stone design with a sculptural, even architectural quality. Yet the substantial yellow-gold mounting is lightened by openwork through the shoulders and gallery, while the side stones appear to emerge from the architecture of the ring itself. The result is bold and weighty without feeling blocky—a particularly expressive example of late postwar diamond-ring design.

Material: 10K yellow gold

Marks: the ring is stamped “10K”; there is an additional mark of “J" imposed over “U,” or possibly it’s “JJ”—maker unknown

Dimensions: the ring’s top north-to-south dimension is determined by the stone itself, which measures 8.48 mm at its widest point; the ring stands approx. 6.4mm tall above the finger

Size: just over 5 1/4 (free sizing—contact us for more info)

Diamonds:
Center: GIA-assessed 2.40 carat Old European Cut diamond; “Natural, Fancy Dark Yellowish Brown, Even” color; SI1 clarity (it’s our opinion that in certain lighting environments, though subtle, the stone has a definite apricot hue underlying the brown)
Accents: two Round Brilliant cut diamonds (.50 ctw, est.), approx. near-colorless and SI2 to I clarity overall — accent diamonds assessed in their mounting by a GIA GD; weights and grades are approximate and determined as mounting permits
