Period: c. early 1900s Edwardian / Belle Époque / Gilded Age. The basket on this ring is utterly extraordinary! We've never seen anything quite like it. At its core is a lilting buttercup design, which already would have made for a beautiful piece. But interspersed within are these unique sort of spade-like embellishments, bringing the craftsmanship to a new level. And then, as though to make a braggart's point, the jeweler set rose cut diamonds into each little spade! All this is held in place by the floral shoulder caps, which of course have their own bits of diamond flair. The entire ring was carved and crafted by hand—you can see the small idiosyncrasies under a microscope. It's absolutely wonderful.
