Shauna's Secret Stash: c. 1900 Late / Post-Victorian 18K Gold and Silver Solitaire Engagement Ring

Period: c. 1900; late/post-Victorian— this is one of the rare “Shauna’s secret stash” pieces! It’s a deceptively simple ring boasting the elusive it factor. The ring just works. The subtle contrast between the faintly-polished gold shank and lightly patinated silver basket, the uber low profile, the overall proportions, the bright and spready Old Euro with a beautiful warmth, the faint platinum-brown of the stone and the moody silver basket…they all contribute to the ring’s standout beauty. Shauna refused to allow me to list it for ages and ages, but she finally released it because she stole another ring in its stead (after Shauna accumulated a few too many pieces, we instituted a “one in, one out” rule).

Material: 18K gold; silver (stamped “18K” and “.925”)

Dimensions: The stone measures 8.54 mm in diameter at its widest point and stands 5.20 mm tall; the stone’s culet sticks out ever-so-slightly below the mount, thereby determining the piece’s height above the finger (FWIW: Shauna has never had any comfort issues with this ring)

Size: 4 1/2 (free sizing — contact us for more information)

Diamond: a GIA-assessed 2.27 carat Old European Cut diamond with N Very Light Brown color and VS2 clarity — Note that the stone also has a very faint platinum/silver tint underlying the VLB, though it could be the silver basket reflecting throughout. Regardless, the effect is both subtle and uniquely beautiful.
