1870 English 18K Gold and Antique Cut Diamond Half Hoop Ring

Period: 1870 Victorian; Birmingham, England

Marks: this piece has full British marks, including a crown, 18, anchor, and date letter “v” unique to 1870. The piece also bears the mark WP&? (possibly WP&S, or WP&C) though we’ve yet to identify the maker.

Dimensions: 4.30 mm north to south; stands 3.05 mm tall above the finger (3.80 mm tall including the center stone)

Size: 6 1/4 (free sizing)

Diamonds: five antique hand-cut diamonds. These stones are very old and likely outdate the ring, possibly by many decades or even centuries. They bear unique facets and proportions that are difficult to categorize using the limited vocabulary of the contemporary diamond market. In short, they are akin to modified Old Single Cuts / pre-French Cuts, or even simplified Peruzzi cuts. They are perhaps closest to Mazarin cuts. They're their own thing! Weight estimate is .50 ctw., approx near colorless and SI1 clarity overall.
